As an important aspect of domain monetization I've been coming up with a few ideas with monetizing graphic request traffic to a domain. For example, domains that are parked only have their actual HTML requests being reported back in the uniques at the parking company and not all these requests are actually reported.

I've been going through our web logs and I think that I've discovered a potential opportunity. In the weblogs there are a LOT of requests for graphics (GIFs, JPGs, PNGs) etc that are no longer being delivered because the original site is now offline, the domain purchased by a domainer and now parked.

What I'm thinking of doing is serving advertising to all of those requests.....there's literally millions of them. There are two problems with this - the first is that as far as I'm aware you can create a link from a graphic request....therefore no immediate click traffic....but that's ok there is another more mundane way to solve this problem.

Deliver a graphic back to the site inviting the webmaster to be a part of an affiliate network that you've setup. Just think about it.....this was a dead graphic on a web page and suddenly it is telling the webmaster, "Do you want to earn money?" My guess is that given the volume of traffic that a portion of the webmaster community out there will actually sign-up. Some will turn the graphic off....but that's OK as well as it reduces the load on my web server. LOL! It's a win no matter what happens.

As I always say to ParkLogic customers.....it may be a crazy idea but if this adds to the bottom line then I'm in! Have you ever had a crazy idea for monetizing traffic? Share it here in the comments area.
