I was recently speaking with a CEO of a major parking company whom I greatly respect about standards and transparency and he said something that surprised me. He believed that I was against domain parking and was out to "get the parking companies".
I thought that it would be really good to state my position:
1. I think that domain parking is currently the best model for monetizing masses of domains due to its scalability. I am very positive about domain parking!
2. I believe that on the whole parking companies are filled with really good people who work hard at providing an excellent service.
3. I believe that most parking systems have been built systems over time but sometimes "stuff just happens" and the technology throws up errors.
4. I think that it's time that the industry took the next step towards maturity and begins to adopt standards.
I'm actually for the industry not for or against any particular segment of the industry. All I know is that I personally believe that the fastest way to increasing the value of my domains is first through standards, then transparency and finally seeing greater dollars move into our advertising channel.
So, if you're a parking company and feel a little persecuted I do apologise but I will continue to single mindedly pursue the interests of my domain portfolio, revenue line and valuation. For those parking companies that subscribe to a "higher standard" I applaud you for your efforts, well done! For the other parking companies you may need to do a little introspection and work away at improving systems etc. because domainers are beginning to demand higher standards.
