Although I love living in Australia (I wouldn't live anywhere else) travelling from the country is such a pain. What many people don't realise is that travelling from Melbourne to Europe means that you're flying over Australia for 4-5 hours of the journey.....it's a big country.

manfloatingSo here is what I'm debating. Fly around the world for two weeks taking in both DomainFest Prague and Traffic Miami or just attend one of the conferences. Flying around the world will mean that I return home as a complete blob after being on aircraft for around 50 hours.....not fun!

I haven't been to a domain conference for around 8 months and this is really unusual for me. To be quite frank.....I just couldn't face the flights. I found myself constantly in two minds. It would be great to catch up with a lot of my domainer friends and then shuddering at the thought of a 16 hour flight to LA (which is the shortest flight for a conference).

My problem is that the ParkLogic domain management platform that I'm involved in is going ahead in leaps and bounds with a huge new release just completed followed up by integrating registrars into the platform to make it easier to manage domains. My thoughts are that there are many domainers that would love to take a look at the updated system....hence my debate about travel.

Being an Internet based business I thought that I'd ask you.....what do you think I should do? Would you like a demonstration of the ParkLogic platform in person or via the Internet and a phone call is fine? Send me an email as I always love hearing from people in the industry!

Whatever my ultimate decision I know that I ALWAYS enjoy catching up with friends and meeting new people in the industry. It's the allure of the camaraderie that really overcomes my dread of yet another trip....followed by a heap of jetlag. Which brings me around to.....I hope to see you there!

In close to a decade of domaining, I have never been to a domain conference. Needles to say I hate plains and the waste of time that goes with them by being stacked in with hundreds of people like sardines. In your situation with all the time wasted on such a trip, my answer would be a clear NO GO. Eventhough Prag is only a 3 hour drive from where I live, I still didn't sign up, to go to the conference which would have been my very first to visit. I am debating if such a conference is realy worth attending.

I totally agree with you on the flying part. My girlfriend and I are going to Queensland, Australia in November for vacation and I'm SO not looking forward to the long flight all the way from Norway. It's approximately 24 hours of flying..

I hate flying long distances so much that it actually keeps me from looking forward to vacating in Australia. I'm sure I'll love Australia though, but the crazy amount of hours I have to spend inside an airplane to get there really ticks me off.

Good luck! smilies/wink.gif
