Well, I'm back and feeling refreshed after a two week vacation with the family on the Gold Coast in wonderful Queensland, Australia. During the time away I managed to do a considerable amount of reading and thinking while staring at the surf. Two things I love doing!

drtbanner1Domain Round Table (DRT) is coming up in the next couple of weeks (April 18 - 21) and it looks to be an outstanding conference with a great line-up of speakers on a wide range of topics. Some of the interesting topics for domain owners include Parking Analyzed, Emerging Industry Trends and Advanced Domain Valuation.

What I thought was interesting was the demographics of the attendees who attend DRT. Although 39% are domain owners the balance is made up of intellectual property interests (24%), domain insiders such as registrars (24%) and search engines (13%). This is a very different mix of people compared to other domain related conferences.

trafficHot on the heels of DRT is the Orlando TRAFFIC (May 20-24) conference which has only just posted its schedule. The Snowe Bill and the future of PPC is taking center stage followed up by a re-examination of transparency for this conference. Both of which should be top of mind for domain owners.

It would appear that Rick Schwartz has again got his finger on the pulse of what's really important for the industry from a business perspective. As normal I will be travelling across the Pacific to attend this conference.

domainermeetingAnother really interesting conference will be Domainer Meeting (June 19-20) which is being held in Paris just before ICANN at the same venue. It will be interesting to attend this conference as it is based in Europe and will attract a completely different attendee. The guys from EuroDNS are organizing it and it should be an outstanding event. Besides that.....can you really say no to Paris?

Is it worth attending conferences? I always believe that really depends upon you. If you look on them as an investment into your own development and the development of relationships then the answer is a definate YES otherwise you may want to reconsider attending. For me, I try and attend as many as possible.
