manfloatingOver the years I’ve always endeavoured to be up front about a multitude of issues in our industry. I love domains, Domaining and I have the privilege of calling a great number of domainers friends, colleagues and some are business partners. I recently wrote a number of articles on the behaviour of a number of “scumbags” in the industry that continuously pump out garbage fraudulent traffic which defraud good domainers of the true value of their traffic. Needless to say…..these scumbags struck back.

Yesterday I woke up to discover that Whizzbangsblog.com was under a massive denial of service attack (DDOS) that basically melted my server. My blog has always been a personal passion for the domain industry and it surprised me that there were individuals that took the time and effort to shut it down. I think that I must have pressed a few buttons with my recent articles about scumbags.

I ended up routing the domain whizzbangsblog.com to 127.0.0.1 to alleviate the pressure so that I could at least get access to my server. Since I was also hosting downwind.com.au (my personal aviation website) and a friends business website I just wanted to get the traffic away from whizzbangsblog.com

Twenty-four hours later the DDOS attack has finished and I’m now repairing any damage done to databases and servers. You’ve just got to love the guys that do this. The good news is that my blog is back online. The bad news is the DDOS has moved to my company, ParkLogic.com and taken out the servers running the public facing site. Revenue is always protected but I want to apologise for clients not being able to login to view their stats at the moment.

So what are we doing……lots! We’re in the process of working with our tier 1 hosting company to block the offending traffic at the edge of the network and we’ve reconfigured new servers to block the DDOS attack further. We anticipate that we’ll be back online shortly.

I would like to thank all those people that have expressed their support for my blog during this time. I would not wish cyber-terrorism on anyone – friend or foe. In the meantime…..I’d better get back to it.
