It’s official…..the domain monetization industry is experiencing a dramatic and sustained upward trend. Believe it or not, this is courtesy of Google as they attempt to secure more traffic for advertisers.

I’m one of those strange people that get really excited about statistics, numbers and trying to interpret what they mean. Then again, if you’re in the domain industry then you should also be getting messy in the data….after all, that’s where the money can be found.

Whether you’re a domaining expert of new the industry I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of the free lessons as I unpack what it means to be a professional domain investor.

I have two things to share with you this week, the first is a big announcement and the second is the numbers are looking staggering! When I say, staggering I really meant it. There have been some massive changes in the online advertising landscape that are now flowing through to domain investors.

The big announcement is that I’ve now launched MasterClassLessons.com. Master Class Lessons is a website that will host freely available training courses and the first topic covered is “Domain Monetization”.

For many years I’ve had an ambition to release a structured video training course on “Domain Monetization” that is relevant for both entry level and experienced domain investors. All you need to do is register and you get access to over two hours of lessons that start with a bit of my own history in the industry and finish with how to effectively manage a large domain portfolio.

I plan on adding to the series and incorporating additional topics that relate to domains, entrepreneurship and life. At the beginning of this week’s video I take viewers on a quick tour of masterclasslessons.com….I hope you enjoy it!

The data this week shows some great news for domain investors! We saw the beginning of an upward trend in the RPM and nRPM the previous week and this week the numbers show this is continuing.

This result is contrary to the typical seasonal downward trend most northern hemisphere summer periods generate….which means that COVID-19 is having a massive impact on the online space. Several weeks ago I predicted there would be an upward swing of 5% to the numbers and this trend looks like a fulfillment of that prophecy.

This result begs a question. If you’re not seeing bigger numbers in your own portfolio then you have to ask what you’re doing…! It was my absolute pleasure to spend time with Page Howe, one of the domain industry’s most prominent investors. Page has sold millions of dollars of domains and on the 23rd July, he’s launching the online conference, “The Domain Show” (thedomainshow.com).

During our fireside chat together, we journey down memory lane together, reflecting upon the sales of a couple of his domains, seniors.com and seniors.net for $1.6m. I then ask for him to share thoughts on the current state of the industry and what he believes domain investors need to focus upon today.

This week showed a VERY unexpected change in the stats and one that I personally was very surprised to witness. It signals a potential massive change in the domain monetization industry so hang onto your seats as I dive into the data.

I also couldn’t help noticing that Facebook is going through a whole heap of pain as major advertiser after major advertiser has stopped advertising on that platform. The question I ask myself is where will the advertisers go to attract the Gen Z and millennial eyeballs?

Google? Unlikely. Twitter….they have their own kind of pain. Whatever happens, I’m sure the data will begin to reveal the activities of major corporate advertisers.
