Industry Update - Week 24

New charts that really show how much has changed in the industry.

This week I add a couple of new charts to the regular analysis that really highlights the massive change we’ve seen this year so far. You won’t believe just how much more Google is paying for traffic now compared to the beginning of the year.

We can see that Google is powering forward by increasing their normalized RPM compared to the flatlining of the Direct Advertising networks. That being said, I think the Direct Advertising networks will spring back into action as the threat from COVID-19 subsides.

I also discuss a couple of new lessons I plan on adding to MasterClass Lessons next week….so those of you that thought you were finished, yep, there’s more on the way.

Domain Industry Update - Week 20

What a great week!

It’s official…..the domain monetization industry is experiencing a dramatic and sustained upward trend. Believe it or not, this is courtesy of Google as they attempt to secure more traffic for advertisers.

Escrow.com

I’m one of those strange people that get really excited about statistics, numbers and trying to interpret what they mean. Then again, if you’re in the domain industry then you should also be getting messy in the data….after all, that’s where the money can be found.

If you’re wondering how to understand all this data then you’ve got to go to masterclasslessons.com. I recently launched this website and it now has ten video lessons on domain monetization. Whether you’re a domaining expert of new the industry I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of the free lessons as I unpack what it means to be a professional domain investor.

In the meantime, enjoy this weeks’ video.

Industry Update - Week 18

Great data released this week!

The data this week shows some great news for domain investors! We saw the beginning of an upward trend in the RPM and nRPM the previous week and this week the numbers show this is continuing.

Escrow.com

This result is contrary to the typical seasonal downward trend most northern hemisphere summer periods generate….which means that COVID-19 is having a massive impact on the online space. Several weeks ago I predicted there would be an upward swing of 5% to the numbers and this trend looks like a fulfillment of that prophecy.

This result begs a question. If you’re not seeing bigger numbers in your own portfolio then you have to ask what you’re doing…! If you’re doing the same thing as you’ve always done with your domains, then don’t expect a different result. Give us a call at ParkLogic and we can see if we can help you out.

In the meantime, don’t forget to subscribe, like and comment on the videos. It’s a great encouragement to me to keep on putting them together and with every action the domain message gets out their further on Youtube.

Domain Industry Update – Week 16

Is a massive change in the wind this week?

This week showed a VERY unexpected change in the stats and one that I personally was very surprised to witness. It signals a potential massive change in the domain monetization industry so hang onto your seats as I dive into the data.

Escrow.com

I also couldn’t help noticing that Facebook is going through a whole heap of pain as major advertiser after major advertiser has stopped advertising on that platform. The question I ask myself is where will the advertisers go to attract the Gen Z and millennial eyeballs?

Google? Unlikely. Twitter….they have their own kind of pain. Whatever happens, I’m sure the data will begin to reveal the activities of major corporate advertisers.

Some Domainers are Just Dumb

Are you domaining with ancient or modern tools?

I was reading an article on TheDomains.com about domain traffic monetisation and the comment list ended up being filled with doom and gloom. I found the comments tended to spring from domainers harkening back to the “good old days” when raking in money from their traffic was easy. Many of them also showed a complete lack of understanding about how monetisation has moved on from the “good old days”.

I will once again say upfront that I’m one of the founders of ParkLogic and we monetise domain traffic but in a very different manner from ANY other provider. We work with almost all of the traditional parking companies and many of the global advertising networks. This gives us a unique perspective on the industry, and I believe provides us with some authority to speak on the subject of monetisation.

I would first like to tackle the common misconception that parking providers are thieves. Contrary to popular belief, we find the parking providers are not fraudulent and stealing your money. They are often as in the dark as you are as to why a domain’s earnings have fallen apart or why a clawback was applied to your account. Google is pulling all of strings and they don’t share squat with their partners.

Before you go accusing your account manager of theft think twice. They are actually your best friend who represent you to their larger organisation. I’ve heard of some account managers being treated despicably and it’s about time some bad domainers act a little more professionally. Thank goodness most domain investors ARE professional in their approach.

That all being said, have some parking providers attempted nefarious behaviours in the past? Absolutely! In fact, on the whole these companies are no longer in business. They’ve either been caught out by their customers or partners for doing the wrong thing and have now been expunged from the industry. This means the companies that have survived are generally pretty good.

Now let me comment on the state of play of domain monetisation. Is it dead? Nope. Is it dead for some people? Yes. The major reason why domain investors believe that domain monetisation is dead is because they keep on doing the same thing they always have. Go figure?

Let’s think about this for a bit. Many domain investors complain about declining revenues and then do nothing about it. They may change parking providers but that’s just like changing which cabin you’re going to sleep in on the Titanic.
