This week’s domain monetization industry is full of incredible stats that allude to the resilience of the direct advertising industry. Yes, they’re back and continuing to pay more for domain traffic while Google is paying less….even while Black Friday is upon us.

Amongst all the data, slides and commentary we mustn’t forget all those people that are suffering due to COVID. It’s a terrible virus that is taking a severe toll on families the world over. I would encourage you to take a few minutes out of your busy day and say a prayer for those that are doing it tough and then say another prayer of thanks if you are doing it well.

There was a great discussion in one of the threads on NamePros that I felt almost compelled to join in. It was whether domain monetization is dead or not. My reply was essentially, no it’s not; it’s just changed.

What I find surprising is the number of domain investors that expect a different outcome by doing exactly the same thing. I hate to rain on your parade, but domain parking has moved on and become domain monetization. What’s the difference you may ask?

Domain monetization is ensuring that your valuable domain traffic is being competitively bid upon by the many, many global advertising networks…..not just one. Improvements in technology to access a multiplicity of advertising networks is a natural progression of a great industry.

The stats that I produce and comment upon each week are an indication of just how healthy and vibrant domain monetization is. No it’s not dead and as today’s stats testify, it’s alive and well.

It’s been a few weeks since my last update and I must admit, it’s good to be back! So where was I you may ask? It just so happens that I had a long overdue minor operation that I ended up having done and spent some time recuperating. Nothing serious and I’m overjoyed at being back.

This week we dive into the data and unpack what appears to be the beginnings of a major new trend that will impact everyone that monetizes domain traffic. The almost linear increase in the rate that Google has been paying for traffic has tipped over and now looks to be sliding away.

So has Google been playing a bit of a game by paying more for traffic, crushing the direct advertising networks and then now paying less? Time will only tell and I’m looking forward to viewing the coming week’s statistics. I wouldn’t be surprised if the direct advertising networks are more resilient than Google first anticipated…..so watch this space.

This week’s update is full of great data and statistics that will tantalize as well as inform domain monetization investors about what is really happening in the wider industry. I find myself looking forward to creating the data each week as it gives me a snapshot of what’s really going on.

One highlight from this week’s video is the continued surge in the Google normalized RPM. When you compare where they’ve come from earlier in the year it is really quite astounding their willingness to pay more and more for quality domain traffic.
