My first was about $75.00 US and I had to save to get it, but I was only 16 and working part time after school. That was a long time ago around 1969.

Sometimes in the quest for more customers, we get unwanted results. Now to deal with the negative and get back on track. I know about the time I get the food for the Hummingbirds right, they switch to flowers and such leaving my feeders untouched. I don't want to keep the feeders going past fall, or they won't migrate, so some preplanning is needed. Once the flowers run their course, they will be back hammering the feeders, draining 3 in a day. Keeps me busy.

  • Couldn't agree with you anymore.....development isn't the challenge....it's the management and business aspects that become increasingly important.

I think trying to develop a huge number of domains at one is basically impossible and is a pipedream of domains forever. The platform has little to do with it. Whether you use Shopify, WooCommerce (WordPress), Big Commerce, Magento or others it really not the issue, although some are much easier than others, Like Shopify and WooCommerce. Building a successful online business takes so many things to get right. Product/service, platform, design, SEO, content, social media (very important today) and so much more. There is no magic bullet and that's why so many domainers have failed at it and the successes are few. It certainly can be done and can be very financially rewarding.

As for "you quickly discover that there isn’t a simple way to view how each of them are performing in their various business models", that is easy; Is it making a profit? Is it making a profit relative to its costs (time, products costs, expenses etc.)? Are sales and profits increasing? It is just like any business.

  • On another note, here in the states I have only seen 1 Cockatoo at a time, never a flock of them. Must be different in Australia. Cool though. We are lucky to get BlueJays or lots of Humming birds.

I have had over 80+ cars and trucks , and motorcycles over the years, but my first was a 1954 Chevrolet 2 dr hardtop. Leaked oil everywhere, but ran like a top. It being the 70s I traded it for a 1955 Volkswagon bus and so began my experience owning many cars. I have had some nice ones and some real POS, but they all gave some good memories and you learn fast that it is like a pet and needs attention if you plan to get anywhere in one piece. First car with airbags, whats the world coming too, Lol? Airconditioning through holes in the floor, that beats 4/60,( 4 windows down at 60 miles per hour).

I was just interviewed by Ed Keay-Smith from domainer.com.au the other day. I was first interviewed by Ed over a decade ago and it was great to spend some time together again reflecting about the domain industry. We covered a wide range of t...

  • mgilmour created a new blog post, Is Domain Parking Dead?
In this blog I’m going to be a little like Rick Schwartz and have a rant. Many domain investors make the mistake of assuming that domain parking is dead and the only real business model is available to them is domains sales. Is domain parking dead? N...
